The applications included in phpGroupWare support the security of the Access Control List [ACL] and the Category Management System of the GroupWare server - important and useful functions, which are realized by the phpGroupWare API.
ACL security means to grant access for data to other users or groups of the working environment. The acess works application sensitive. The owner of the data has the possibility to grant access for read, update [write], delete and to see private entries to other users or groups. This functionality enables group works, which depend on shared data.
Categories are the structure to manage data within the GroupWare working environment. The Category Management System provides three types of categories: global systemwide and within each application usable, global applicationwide usable and personal applicationwide usable. The global categories creates the administrator of the GroupWare server, the personal categories creates each user on demand. Categories are meant as folders. You have the possibility to assign data to categories to keep them sorted and make it easier to find them.
Advanced search functions for data result from a combination of the ACL settings, the categories and pattern search functions.
The functions explained above are available in all applications of the GroupWare working environment - so far they are needed. In the descriptions of the several applications they will not be mentioned again.
The various phpGroupWare applications are specialized to work in different areas you can see at the right menu. Selecting a group shows a list of applications sorted by this category. The tool link brings up a detailed description of the functionality. The arrow link at the bottom brings you back to the main menu.
Specialized applications to manage projects and workhours, data and informations, events and meetings are assigned to the category [Organization].
Descriptions of tools which use network services and fetch informations from other servers over the net can be found in the [Network] area.
The category of [Communication] includes applications to get in touch with other users of the GroupWare working environment, to provide the exchange of ideas and informations and to manage projects.
Knowledge to work with the GroupWare working environment teach the applications of the [Education] section.
To edit images, work with videos and audio files or watch comic strips, these are the functions of the tools which can be found in the [Multi Media] group.
Tools to setup and manage the GroupWare working environment, to administrate services - also on other servers - can be found in the [Administration] section.
Included in working environment are tools to develop new applications for phpGroupWare, which are described in the [Development] area. |
